Special Olympics Healthy Athletes®
Since 1997, Special Olympics Healthy Athletes® has provided more than two million free health screenings to athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities worldwide. People with intellectual and developmental disabilities face disproportionate barriers to care that can result in unaddressed health conditions. Healthy Athletes screenings help to identify health concerns through providing screenings in a fun, welcoming environment and connect athletes to follow up care in their communities. Healthy Athletes also provides training to health care professionals and students to better serve people with intellectual disabilities.
From Sunday, 8 November to Thursday, 12 November, athletes from all delegations will be able to participate in seven screening disciplines. There will also be an open day for the community on 7 November, during which people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are who are not competing in the Games can also receive health screenings.
