Special Olympics Invitational Games
Road to Santiago 2027
The international competition will serve as a prelude to the World Games, the world’s largest social and sporting event for people with intellectual disabilities, which will be held in Latin America for the first time in October 2027.
From November 8 to 12, 2026, around 800 athletes from eight delegations—Canada, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Slovakia, Malta, Paraguay, Puerto Rico, and Chile—will gather at the National Stadium Park to compete in five sports and prepare for next year’s Games.
More than just a sports event
During the Invitational Games, thousands of people will be able to watch athletes with intellectual disabilities prepare for Santiago 2027 in person.
The five sports will take place at the National Stadium Park in the Ñuñoa district of Santiago, Chile, allowing attendees to enjoy all the competitions held each day.
Civil society organizations and educational institutions will fill the stands as part of the “Hinchadas Unificadas” program to support the participating delegations. More than 400 volunteers will be responsible for welcoming the delegations and the public at each venue.
Access to the Parque Estadio Nacional—including the futsal, 7-a-side football, 3x3 basketball, and Fan Zone events—will be free to the general public, and a limited number of free tickets will be available for the track and field and swimming competitions through the Passline system.
Additionally, from November 8 to 12, the Healthy Athletes program will offer athletes free evaluations in seven medical disciplines.
